Dr. Samuel J. Youngs is the Dean of Humanities & Christian Studies and Associate Professor of Christian Studies at Bryan College. He also serves as Director of Accreditation & Assessment, reflecting his commitment to academic excellence and institutional integrity.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Theology & Religious Studies, King's College London
- M.A. in Religion, Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary
- B.A. in Religious Studies & Literature, University of South Florida
Dr. Youngs specializes in modern and postmodern theology, church history, theological hermeneutics, and contextual theology, with a particular focus on the works of Martin Luther and Jürgen Moltmann. His research explores intersections of Christology, interreligious dialogue, trauma studies, and theological method.
His publications include the academic monograph Making Christ Real: The Peril and Promise of Kenosis (2022), the book Way of the Kenotic Christ (2019), and peer-reviewed articles spanning topics such as therapeutic atonement, divine violence in the Heliand, and comparative theology. He has presented at major academic conferences, including the American Academy of Religion Annual Meeting (2022) and the Southeastern Meeting of the Evangelical Theological Society (2015).
Dr. Youngs actively engages in Christian formation workshops and interfaith dialogue studies. His editorial work includes reviews of seminal texts in process theology, Bonhoeffer scholarship, and interreligious hermeneutics.
