Samuel J. Ballentine, MD, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology & Immunology at Washington University School of Medicine. He serves as the Residency Program Director and is affiliated with the Anatomic & Molecular Pathology division. His research focuses on translational clinicopathologic studies in gastrointestinal, pancreaticobiliary, and liver pathology.

His work includes collaborations on clinicopathologic correlations, endoscopic ultrasound-guided biopsies, and molecular mechanisms in GI disorders.
His recognized achievements include the Rodger C. Haggitt Gastrointestinal Pathology Society Abstract Award (2019), being named Department of Pathology & Immunology Faculty Teacher of the Year (2020-2021), and a Special Recognition Award (2022). He is a Diplomate of The American Board of Pathology (2018).
