Samuel Au is a Postgraduate Research Student in the Department of Sociology and Criminology at the University of Essex, supervised by Professor Neli Demireva and Dr. Sarah Kunz. He concurrently serves as a Tutor for the Postgraduate Certificate in International Sports Management at the University of London Worldwide, integrating over a decade of professional experience managing international sports events including World Cup Qualifiers, Premier League Asia Trophy, and International Champions Cup.
He holds an MSc in Sport Policy, Management and International Development from the University of Edinburgh (2022).
His research examines migration transitions of Hong Kong BN(O) migrants with specialized focus on Sports Migration and Hong Kong Studies. His 2024 publication in Sport in Society analyzes socio-cultural challenges faced by Hong Kong elite athletes and coaches migrating to the UK under the BN(O) visa scheme, revealing critical intersections between sports careers and transnational mobility.
An avid ultra-marathon runner, Samuel has completed multiple endurance events including Rebal Walker, Translantau, and The North Face 100 trail marathons.
