Dr. Nicole Baerg is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Government at the University of Essex. She serves as the UCU Essex Case Work Coordinator and Government Department Representative (since 2024). Previously, she co-directed the Essex Summer School in Social Science Data Analysis (2019–2021). Her research focuses on central banking governance, European Union policies, and the political economy of communication, with notable work on central bank accountability, textual analysis of policy statements, and immigration politics.
Her academic roles include teaching and supervising students in government-related disciplines. She has held positions at the University of Essex since 2016, progressing from Lecturer to Senior Lecturer in 2020. Her work bridges political science, economics, and policy analysis, emphasizing institutional dynamics and public opinion.
Dr. Baerg’s research has explored topics such as strategic vagueness in central bank communication, the political origins of central bank independence, and the impact of member state power in EU fiscal frameworks. She has also examined unauthorized immigration’s electoral consequences and the role of hydropower governance in rural development.
