Samuel Angiboust is a Professor of Earth Sciences at Ecole normale supérieure de Lyon (ENS Lyon), leading the Department of Earth Sciences and serving as Editor-in-Chief of Tectonophysics. His research focuses on subduction zone dynamics, combining field geology, microstructural analysis, and numerical modeling to understand fluid-rock interactions, metamorphic processes, and seismicity mechanisms. He holds a PhD from Sorbonne University (2011) and completed postdoctoral research at GFZ Potsdam (2012–2016) under an Alexander von Humboldt Fellowship. He was awarded Junior Member status at the Institut Universitaire de France (2023–2028).
Key research areas include: (1) fluid-driven deformation in subduction zones, (2) paleoseismicity recorded in metamorphic rocks, (3) thermo-mechanical modeling of slab dynamics, and (4) carbon cycling via subduction processes. His work bridges microscale mineralogical observations with large-scale tectonic phenomena, emphasizing fluid-rock interaction's role in seismic and accretionary processes.
Publications span subduction interface mechanisms, eclogite-facies deformation, and the structural evolution of orogenic belts like the Western Alps and Zagros. He collaborates internationally on projects involving high-pressure metamorphic terranes and seismic cycle processes in modern subduction margins.
