Samira Fargali is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at St. John's University, affiliated with the St. John's College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. She holds a Ph.D. in Biological Science from the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research in Germany, where her doctoral research focused on 3-D cultivation and bone tissue scaffold monitoring in bioreactor systems. Following her Ph.D., she completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Mount Sinai School of Medicine's Neuroscience Department, investigating the role of the VGF protein in regulating glucose metabolism, energy balance, depression, and memory.
Her research interests span obesity, adipose-brain interactions, chromogranins, secretogranins, diabetes, and neurotrophins, with a focus on protein trafficking and signal transduction mechanisms. Dr. Fargali's work bridges biotechnology and neuroscience, addressing interdisciplinary challenges in metabolic and neurodegenerative disorders.
