Samantha Stewart

Samantha Stewart is a Senior Lecturer and Course Leader for the PGCE Secondary Art and Design at the Sheffield Institute of Education, part of the College of Social Sciences and Arts at Sheffield Hallam University. She previously held roles as a Centre Manager for Teacher Education, leading PGCE programs in Lifelong Learning and FE courses while completing her PhD research and serving as a Visiting Moderator for GCSE Art and Design.

Research Interests: Creative arts and mathematics curriculum design, pedagogy informed by evidence-based practices, cultural appropriation in education, and Ethnomathematics. Her PhD explores historical Central European Art and Design curricula and Ethnomathematical techniques linked to Sub-Saharan African material culture.

Recent Work Trends: Recent articles focus on integrating Ethnomathematics into teaching methodologies, particularly for post-14 learners. Earlier works emphasize textile art exhibitions and design conferences, reflecting her dual expertise in art and educational theory.

Advising & Grants: Supervises PGCE Lifelong Learning, PGCE Secondary Art and Design, and MA Education students. Her work bridges teacher education with innovative curriculum development.

Labs/Teams: Engaged in teacher education programs and collaborates on interdisciplinary projects linking art, design, and mathematics pedagogy.
