Samantha McAleese is an Assistant Professor of Critical Criminology in the Department of Sociology at Brock University. As a qualitative researcher, her work examines the collateral consequences of punishment in Canada, criminal records management, and the role of the non-profit sector in supporting justice-impacted individuals. She is a leading expert on record suspensions (pardons) and collaborates with legal professionals, advocates, and people with lived experience to reform criminal record policies.
Dr. McAleese teaches courses including Foundations of Critical Criminology, Abolition and the Carceral State, and Life After Incarceration. She is a member of the Fresh Start Coalition and International Criminal Justice Voluntary Sector Research Network, and serves on the Board of the St. Leonard's Society of Canada. Her research promotes evidence-based policy reforms to reduce structural stigma and support reintegration.
