Dr. Samantha George is an Associate Professor of Research in English Literature at the University of Hertfordshire's School of Creative Arts, serving as Research Lead for Literature and Creative Writing. She previously held roles as Research Champion for the university's Heritage, Cultures and Communities theme and co-led the Film Heritage strand of the Heritage Hub. George is renowned for founding the Open Graves, Open Minds Project in 2010, focusing on literary vampires and Gothic folklore. Her work bridges folklore and Gothic literature, with a focus on public engagement through media appearances, conferences, and exhibitions. She has been featured on BBC Radio programs, documentaries, and international festivals, including the Edinburgh Festival and BFI Blood and Celluloid Festival.
Her research explores vampire studies, werewolves, fairies, and their intersections with ecological and ethical themes. Notable projects include co-editing volumes like Representations of Vampires and the Undead (2012), In the Company of Wolves (2020), and Gramarye: Gothic Encounters with the Faerie Realm (2022). George’s teaching includes modules on Gothic origins, YA literature, and research methods, earning accolades for innovative pedagogy.
