Dr. Samantha Garay is a Research Associate at Cardiff University’s DECIPHer unit within the School of Social Sciences, working in the PHIRST Insight team. Her research focuses on Health Psychology, maternal and infant well-being, and prenatal health behaviors like physical activity, diet, and substance use. She holds a BSc and MSc in Psychology/Health Psychology from the University of Bath and completed her PhD at Cardiff University, investigating maternal behaviors during pregnancy using the Grown in Wales cohort.
Her work spans maternal mental health, placental biology, and school-based interventions. Recent studies include evaluating growth mindset programs in schools and analyzing prenatal behaviors’ impacts on infant outcomes. Findings highlight placental lactogen levels, neurotrophic factors, and gestational weight gain as critical factors. Collaborations are sought for maternal-child health research.
