Dr Samantha A Chaperon is an Associate Professor in Tourism Management at the School of Management and Marketing, part of the University of Greenwich. She joined the university in 2009 after completing her PhD at Sheffield Hallam University. Her research focuses on the political economy of tourism, particularly through dependency theory and post-colonial perspectives, with an emphasis on tourism development in islands and peripheral regions, policy and governance frameworks, and destination management strategies.
She is a seasoned qualitative researcher specializing in interview methodologies and thematic analysis. Her recent publications align with her expertise, covering topics such as island tourism, sustainable development, and policy implications. She has held leadership roles as Programme Leader for undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Tourism and Events and as Lead Tutor for her school.
Samantha actively contributes to academic governance as a member of the Scientific Committee for the Observatory on Tourism in Island Economies and as book reviews Editor for the International Journal of Islands Research. Previously, she served as Regional Vice President for the UK and Ireland at the International Tourism Studies Association and has held multiple external examiner positions across UK universities.
