Sam Oliver is a Professor and Director of the Institute for Applied Human Physiology (IAHP) at Bangor University's School of Psychology & Sport Science. His research focuses on how exercise, diet, sleep, and environmental stresses (e.g., hypoxia, heat, cold) impact human health and performance. He has published over 70 peer-reviewed articles and collaborates with organizations like Sport Wales and Blizzard Protection Systems Ltd. His work influences clinical guidelines and military practices.

Research Interests: Environmental physiology, exercise immunology, vitamin D metabolism, and prehospital cold casualty care. His studies integrate fieldwork in extreme environments like the Himalayas and utilize advanced facilities like environmental chambers.
Impact: Eleven knowledge exchange partnerships have led to guidelines for the UN Environment Programme, wilderness medicine, and military training. His work on acclimation strategies and supplement protocols improves athlete and emergency service personnel performance.
