Sam Lawton is a Lecturer in Sociological & Cultural Studies at the University of Glasgow's School of Social and Political Sciences. He holds a PhD in Sociology (2023) funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) and Scottish Graduate School of Social Science (SGSSS). His research focuses on bisexuality, gender, and masculinity from interdisciplinary perspectives, including work on binegativity, migrant masculinities, and queer theory. He currently leads the ISRF-funded project 'Bisexuality Today: Understanding Attitudes, Protective Factors, and Risk Factors.'
Education: PhD in Sociology (2023), University of Glasgow; MRes, MA, and prior qualifications in sociology-related fields.
Research interests include the sociology of sexuality, gender studies, masculinities, queer theory, and political sociology. His work bridges postmodernism, anarchism, and intersectional methodologies. He actively contributes to the Interregnum collective through writing and publishing.
Recent articles explore precarious migrant masculinities, critiques of inclusive masculinity narratives, and bi+ identity negotiations. His writing appears in venues like Work, Employment and Society, Global Social Challenges Journal, and public platforms like The Herald and The Conversation.
Teaching includes undergraduate and postgraduate modules on sociological theory, qualitative/quantitative methods, and critical research design. He has supervised dissertations in Global Mental Health, International Journalism, Digital Sociology, and Equality & Human Rights programs.
Collaborative efforts include panels on bi+ masculinities and intersectional research methods, reflecting his commitment to academic discourse and early-career development.
