Sam Fox (he/him) is a Lecturer at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), Edith Cowan University, where he teaches in the Bachelor of Performing Arts course and coordinates units such as Site Specific Production and Presentation and Theory and Practice of Contemporary Performance. He holds a Ph.D. in Creative Writing from the University of Western Australia and specializes in interdisciplinary performance, writing, and socially engaged arts practices.

His research explores cultures of resistance, somatic theories of social re-assembly, and collective bodies resisting synchronic division, intersecting Performance Studies, New Materialism, and Marxism and Ecology. Sam’s creative practice spans contemporary dance, experimental performance, and politically challenging works through his former company, Hydra Poesis (2006–2016).
He is recognized for contributions to community-collaborative arts and has served on panels such as the Australia Council for the Arts and Perth Festival. Awards include the Sidney Myer Creative Fellowship (2011, 2012, 2013) and recognition for works like Liberty In The Dark (Big Mini Media Festival, 2012). Sam’s broader interests include speculative fiction, activist studies, and critical social theory.
