Dr. Salvatore Morra is a British Academy Post-Doctoral Fellow and Research Associate at Trinity Hall College, University of Cambridge. His research focuses on ethnomusicology with emphasis on Arab music traditions, particularly in Tunisia and the Maghreb region. He holds a PhD in Music from Royal Holloway University of London, an MA in Music Performance from Conservatoire Nicola Sala, and a BA in Arabic Language and Literature from University L'Orientale.
His interdisciplinary work examines post-colonial nationalism, multiculturalism, and decoloniality through lenses of sound media and liturgy. Research interests extend to global music histories, audiovisual media archaeology, and spatial sound relationships. As Music Curator of ISMEO, he has promoted Mediterranean musical scholarship and established the 'Oriental Music Conversations' seminar series.
Honors include the British Academy Post-Doctoral Fellowship. He leads the research project 'Italian Arab Musical Encounters (1860-1960): Sound, Colonisation and Power' (2024-2027).
