Associate Professor Salvatore Babones is affiliated with the School of Social and Political Sciences at The University of Sydney. His academic rank is Associate Professor, specializing in political sociology and quantitative methods for cross-national comparisons. He is widely recognized for his work on higher education policy and India/Bharat studies.
Research interests include global development dynamics, world-systems analysis, and the political sociology of democracy. His latest book, *Dharma Democracy: How India Built the Third World's First Democracy* (2025), explores India’s democratic evolution. He has authored or edited fourteen books and numerous articles, with a focus on comparative sociology and policy analysis.
Recent scholarship addresses international student flows, university rankings, and China’s global development strategies. Awards include the Wall Street Journal's 'Best on Politics 2018' for *The New Authoritarianism*. Babones supervises research on international rankings and nationhood studies.
