Dr. Sally Ricketts is a Senior Research Associate at the Department of Veterinary Medicine, University of Cambridge, and a key member of the Canine Genetics Centre. She works under the School of Biological Sciences, focusing on genetic studies of complex canine disorders.
- Research Focus: Investigating DNA variants linked to idiopathic epilepsy, paroxysmal dyskinesia, and hereditary cataracts in dogs using GWAS and WGS.
- Methodology: Collaborative case-control studies, targeted resequencing, and RNA-seq to validate gene expression in ocular tissues.
Recent Work: Identified associations between CPT1A gene variants and bilateral posterior polar subcapsular cataracts in Arctic dog breeds, though variants lack predictive specificity. This research highlights metabolic pathways in canine ocular health.
Collaborations & Funding: Partnerships with the University of Helsinki, Linnaeus, and veterinary clinics globally. Funded by the PetPlan Charitable Trust, American Kennel Club Canine Health Foundation, and other international research bodies.
