Sally Freeman is a Reader in organic/medicinal chemistry at the University of Manchester, Department of Pharmacy. She holds a PhD in Organophosphorus Chemistry from the University of Leicester (1985) and has held prestigious fellowships, including the Lister Fellowship (1989) and a postdoctoral position at Harvard University. Her research focuses on inositol phosphate chemistry and drug design for treating cancer, malaria, Alzheimer’s, and inflammation. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and a member of the Lister Institute.
Education: BSc (Hons) Chemistry (University of Leicester, 1982), PhD (University of Leicester, 1985). Career highlights include a visiting scientist role at Arizona State University (1994) and leadership in the PHAR11002 MPharm unit. Her work contributes to UN SDGs related to health and well-being.
Research interests span drug synthesis for neurological and inflammatory disorders, with recent studies on inflammasome inhibitors and anti-malarial compounds. Her projects include identifying Alzheimer’s drug targets and collaborating on international research networks.
Awards include the Lilly Prize for Pharmaceutical Excellence and recognition for her contributions to medicinal chemistry.
