Dr Sally Abey is the Head of the School of Health Professions at the University of Plymouth, where she has been a faculty member since 2005. She previously held roles such as Academic Lead for the BSc (Hons) Podiatry program (2015–2022) and Dean of Education for the College of Podiatry (2015–2022). Her academic focus includes clinical education, technology integration in health education, and research-informed placement environments. She leads funded projects exploring mobile learning, virtual clinical environments, and reusable learning objects (RLOs) like podcasts and instructional videos.
Her research interests span telehealth competencies, diabetes foot care, and person-centered care in podiatry. She has developed a podiatry web-based repository in collaboration with CEPPL, featuring resources such as gait analysis videos and infection control demonstrations. Dr. Abey is a recognized Teaching Fellow and actively contributes to policy advisory roles within the Royal College of Podiatry.
Her work includes advising on pre-registration podiatry training, maintaining clinical educator registries, and representing the College of Podiatry nationally on education policy. She has presented internationally and authored peer-reviewed articles on topics like behavior change in diabetes self-management and arts-based interventions for social transformation.
Dr. Abey’s leadership extends to academic workshops, fostering collaboration between educators and practitioners, and embedding research into curriculum delivery to prepare podiatry graduates for evolving professional challenges.
