Sallie Shipman is a Lecturer in the School of Nursing at the University of West Florida, part of the College of Health. She teaches in the Traditional BSN, RN to BSN, and MSN programs, focusing on community/public health and fundamentals of nursing practice. With over 30 years of nursing experience, she transitioned to full-time nurse educator in 2011.
Education: BSN (University of Alabama, 1991), MSN with Clinical Nurse Leader focus (University of Alabama, 2008), EdD in Instructional Leadership for Nurse Educator (University of Alabama, 2014, dual program between Capstone College of Nursing and College of Education).
Research interests include public health nursing education, healthcare emergency preparedness, social determinants of health, and experiential learning theory. Her 2016 article in the Journal of Continuing Education in Nursing earned recognition as Article of the Year.
Certifications: Certified Nurse Educator (CNE), Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL), National Healthcare Disaster Preparedness (NHDP-BC). Professional membership in Society for the Advancement of Disaster Nursing (SADN), actively researching nurse executives’ disaster experiences.
Labs/Teams: Participates in SADN research exploring nurse executives’ disaster responses.
