Salla Myyry is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the School of Educational Sciences and Psychology, University of Eastern Finland. Her work interrogates gender tensions in educational systems through feminist pedagogy and agonistic democracy frameworks, focusing on Finland's basic education and higher education landscapes.
- Active in research groups: Social Studies in Urban Education (SURE), SUVEF - Gender Studies Network
- Projects: School Well-Being, Learning Support and Teacher Segregation (2022-2024, Finnish Ministry of Education), Teacher Segregation in Finland (2024-2028, Kone Foundation)
Her scholarship critically examines how binary-gendered ideals persist in teaching professions despite Finland's reputation for gender equality. Through discursive reading methods, she analyzes:
- Essentialist gender stereotypes in teacher authority dynamics
- Cultural expectations around feminine care vs. masculine discipline
- Curriculum development's role in reinforcing or challenging gender norms
- Heteronormative family role projections in educational settings
Key publications address:
- 2025: How Finnish teachers (de)construct gender binaries in education
- 2024: Critique of depoliticized equality planning in schools
- <2024>: Discursive construction of gender equality in curriculum processes
