Dr. Saira Ali is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Humanities at the University of Adelaide, affiliated with the Faculty of Arts, Business, Law and Economics. She holds a unique background bridging media industry experience at Kitab Pvt Ltd and Oxford University Press in Pakistan with academic roles since 2015, including teaching at the University of the Sunshine Coast. Her research focuses on mediatisation and securitisation processes, examining how media discourses shape threat perception and security governance across geopolitical contexts. Key areas include terrorism narratives, climate security, and protest governance, with interdisciplinary perspectives from media studies, critical security studies, and political communication.
Her notable publications include Mediatised Terrorism: East–West Narratives of Risk (Routledge) and co-authored Public Relations and Strategic Communication (Oxford University Press). She actively supervises Masters and PhD candidates in media, risk, and security studies. Dr. Ali has secured research funding through University of Adelaide School/Faculty schemes and maintains professional activities in academic publishing and conference participation. She is based at Napier Building, Level 9, North Terrace campus.
