معرفی
Dr Said Khelwatty is a Senior Lecturer in Clinical Immunology at Kingston University, affiliated with the Department of Biomolecular Sciences within the School of Life Sciences, Pharmacy and Chemistry. He has been a faculty member since 2018, teaching across various bioscience programs including Biomedical Science, Biological Sciences, and Cancer Biology.
Education:
- BSc (Hons) Biomedical Sciences, 2008
- MSc Biomedical Sciences (specializing in Haematology), 2009
- PhD in Cancer Biology and Therapeutics, 2012
Dr Khelwatty's research is centered on translational cancer research, with a strong focus on colorectal cancer. His work explores the biological and clinical significance of growth factor receptors with tyrosine kinase activity, particularly the HER family and EGFRvIII, as well as cancer stem cell biomarkers like CD44 and CD133. He investigates their roles in tumor progression, therapy resistance, and prognosis across various cancers including colorectal, pancreatic, ovarian, and hepatocellular carcinomas.
His recent publications reveal a consistent trend in identifying predictive biomarkers for targeted therapies, understanding receptor co-expression patterns, and evaluating synergistic drug combinations to overcome resistance. His studies frequently employ immunohistochemistry and cell line models to assess therapeutic responses and signaling dynamics.
Scientific Awards and Fellowships:
- Fellow of the Institute of Biomedical Science (FIBMS), 2015
- Fellow of Advance Higher Education (FHEA), 2020
Dr Khelwatty has been actively involved in externally funded research, including projects supported by the BRIGHT charity. He leads and contributes to research initiatives focused on monoclonal antibody development and the clinical application of biomarkers. He supervises MSc research projects and teaches critical modules such as LS7001 (Research Techniques & Scientific Communication) and LS7010 (MSc Research Project). He is a member of the British Association for Cancer Research and the American Association for Cancer Research, contributing to collaborative efforts in cancer therapeutics.
His work is conducted within a multidisciplinary research team focused on cancer biology and therapeutics, though no specific lab name is mentioned. Future research directions likely include refining diagnostic tools using monoclonal antibodies and advancing personalized treatment strategies based on receptor expression profiles.
