Professor Sally Ward serves as Professor of Molecular Immunology and Director of T Cell Immunology at the University of Southampton's Faculty of Medicine. She leads critical research in antibody engineering and Fc receptor biology within the Centre for Cancer Immunology and Institute for Life Sciences.
- Research focuses on FcRn-mediated antibody trafficking, cancer immunotherapy, and autoimmune disorder treatments
- Key projects include Next Generation Antibody-Drug Conjugates for Cancer Therapy and Fc Receptor-Mediated Trafficking studies
- Active collaborations with Cancer Research UK, Wellcome Trust, and Argenx US Inc
Her recent publications reveal dominant trends in Fc receptor biology and therapeutic applications. Over 70% of her work centers on FcRn mechanisms in autoimmune diseases and cancer, with significant contributions to antibody-drug conjugate design and single-molecule imaging techniques. Key subfields include glioblastoma therapy, pemphigus treatment, and macrophage antigen presentation.
- Royal Society Wolfson Research Merit Award (2018-2020)
- Fellow of the Royal Society (2022)
- Established Investigator Award (1997)
- International Society of Molecular Recognition Award (2025)
Professor Ward supervises PhD students including Mark Richard Gradwell and holds major research grants from Cancer Research UK and Wellcome Trust. She actively participates in industry partnerships with Argenx and contributes to scientific advisory boards including The Antibody Society (Vice President) and CPRIT Therapeutic Monoclonal Antibody Core Facility. Her laboratory develops novel antibody engineering techniques for cancer therapy and autoimmune disease treatment.
