Safoora Kamjan is a Researcher and Coordinator of 14C Facilities at the University of Groningen's Faculty of Science and Engineering, affiliated with the Isotope Research — Energy and Sustainability Research Institute. Her work focuses on zooarchaeology and stable isotope analysis to explore prehistoric animal husbandry practices, particularly in Neolithic contexts. She holds a PhD in Archaeology from the University of Groningen (2022), with research concentrated on cattle farming dynamics in Europe and Anatolia.
- Education: PhD in Archaeology, University of Groningen (2022)
Her research interests include the evolution of cattle farming in southeastern Europe, Neolithic dietary practices, and paleopathological analysis of animal remains. She has contributed to studies at sites like Çatalhöyük (Turkey), Džuljunica-Smărdeš (Bulgaria), and the Dariali Gorge (Georgia).
Publications highlight methodological innovations in combining zooarchaeological data with isotopic analysis to reconstruct human-animal interactions. Her work bridges archaeological theory with empirical data, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches.
She coordinates radiocarbon dating facilities, facilitating chronological frameworks for archaeological research. Collaborations include projects on Dutch wetlands Neolithization and Sasanian-to-medieval herding practices in highland regions.
