Canan Çakirlar is a Senior Lecturer (UD1) with ius promovendi at the University of Groningen's Faculty of Arts, affiliated with the Groningen Institute of Archaeology (GIA). Her research focuses on zooarchaeology, historical ecology, and domestication processes, with particular attention to camels, sea turtles, and ancient dairying practices. She leads projects such as EDAN (Emergence of Domestic Animals in the Netherlands) and SeaChanges, training interdisciplinary researchers at the interface of archaeology and marine biology.
