Dr. Sabrina Sullenberger is a Professor and BSW Program Director at Belmont University’s School of Social Work within the College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences. She previously served at Indiana University’s School of Social Work for a decade. With a “triple crown” of social work education—BA (University of Memphis, 1993), MSW (University of Tennessee, 1995), and PhD (UNC Chapel Hill, 2003)—her academic focus spans teaching, research, and community practice. Her work emphasizes poverty, child/family well-being, adverse childhood experiences, and pedagogical innovation. Notable awards include Belmont’s Faculty Leadership Award for Christian Service and recognition as one of the 30 Most Influential Social Workers Today (2014).
Her research explores socioeconomic disparities, youth perspectives on class mobility, and faith-based service efficacy. She has led grants such as the BETIP curriculum (Tennessee Building Strong Brains Initiative) and the BASIC community engagement project. Dr. Sullenberger’s teaching philosophy prioritizes mentorship, challenging students to integrate personal values with professional impact. Her publications span journals like Social Work Education and Journal of Poverty, addressing topics from service user knowledge in education to adolescent constructions of social class.
