Dr. Jennifer Crowell Thompson serves as Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Education in the College of Pharmacy & Health Sciences and Chair of the Belmont University School of Social Work. She holds a PhD in Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University, an MSW from the University of Tennessee, and a BA in Psychology from Rhodes College. Her research focuses on professional identity development in undergraduates, civic engagement, and educational program evaluation. She has been recognized with Belmont’s Chaney Distinguished Professor Award (2023) and Presidential Faculty Achievement Award (2020).
Dr. Thompson’s career includes roles as a teacher-counselor, policy analyst, and advocate for women’s health. She leads Belmont’s BASIC initiative, fostering community partnerships to address human flourishing in Nashville. Her teaching emphasizes liberal arts integration and social justice, with notable presentations on professional identity during crises and pedagogical tools for diversity education.
Professional affiliations include the Council on Social Work Education, National Association of Social Workers, and Belmont’s Teaching Center. She has secured grants for interdisciplinary programs addressing refugee integration, veteran student needs, and neighborhood empowerment.
