She is also a PhD candidate in Clinical Psychology and Addiction Science at the same university, with expected completion in September 2025. Her academic journey includes an MPhil and MSc, and she is affiliated with the Qualitative Psychological Studies Research Group.
Dr. Mahmood's research interests span several critical areas in psychology, with a particular focus on school bullying, cyberbullying, trauma, and EMDR therapy. Her work explores the psychological impact of bullying on adolescents, particularly in the Bangladeshi context, examining how attachment styles mediate between bullying and trauma symptomatology. She has conducted significant research on the lived experiences of adolescent cyberbullying victims, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, investigating how virtual counseling served as a crucial intervention. Additionally, her work extends to trauma recovery among Ukrainian war survivors and refugees, where she applies EMDR-IGTP (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing - Integrative Group Treatment Protocol) to address intergenerational trauma.
Her methodological expertise includes both quantitative and qualitative approaches, with a special emphasis on interpretative phenomenological analysis (IPA) and psychometric validation of assessment tools. Dr. Mahmood has been instrumental in adapting and validating several psychological instruments for the Bangladeshi context, including the Revised Olweus Bully/Victim Questionnaire (OBVQ-R) and the Attachment Style Classification Questionnaire-Bangla (ASCQ-B).
