Sabrina Grondhuis serves as Professor and Chair of the Psychology and Neuroscience Department at Millsaps College, where she has advanced liberal arts education since 2013 by demonstrating psychology's real-world relevance beyond textbooks.
Her academic credentials include:
- Ph.D. in Psychology, specialization in Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, The Ohio State University
- M.A. in Psychology, The Ohio State University
- B.A. in Psychology, University of California, Irvine
Her research centers on developmental psychology with emphasis on neurodevelopmental disorders including Autism Spectrum Disorder and Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. She pioneers inclusive pedagogy through nontraditional grading systems and applied assessments that transform classroom experiences into engaging real-world connections using board games, music playlists, and video projects.
Scholarly output reveals dual focus: advancing assessment methodologies for intellectual disabilities in clinical contexts and innovating gamified approaches to statistics education. These works bridge theoretical psychology with practical pedagogical solutions for undergraduate learning.
Professional recognition includes:
- Phi Beta Kappa induction (2008)
- Certificate in the Teaching of Psychology (2012)
- Division of Sciences Excellence in Teaching Award (2019)
Mentorship defines her academic practice through the Developmental Psychology Lab where students design original research and present findings at national conferences. She actively guides advisees toward post-graduation success while leading departmental strategy as Chair.
The Developmental Psychology Lab provides hands-on research opportunities focused on child development and neurodiversity, fostering student-led investigations into real-world applications of psychological science.
