Sabrina Faleschini is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Teaching and Learning Studies at the Faculty of Education, Laval University. She has been a professor of child development at the Faculty of Education at Université Laval since 2021. Her research focuses on understanding the early environment in which children develop and its long-term repercussions on behavioral, cognitive, emotional, and social functioning.
Dr. Faleschini earned her PhD in psychology from Université Laval (2016-2020), funded by grants from the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Santé (FRQS) and the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC). Following her doctorate, she completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the Department of Population Medicine at Harvard Medical School (2020-2021), funded by the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Société et culture (FRQSC).
Her research interests center on the developmental origins of children's behavioral, cognitive, emotional, and social functioning, as well as the family environment in which children grow up. She investigates the determinants of child development and mental health and the associated mechanisms, with particular attention to the predictive factors and impacts of parental mental health problems. Her current major project is the PREGO Study, which examines factors contributing to success during the transition from preschool to elementary school.
Dr. Faleschini's recent publications (2023-2025) show a consistent focus on early developmental influences, with increasing attention to pre-pregnancy factors and the transition to elementary school. Her work spans developmental psychology, public health, and educational research, often examining the intersection of biological and environmental factors in child development.
Dr. Faleschini has received significant research funding from multiple prestigious sources:
- Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC)
- Fonds de recherche du Québec – Santé (FRQS)
- Fonds de recherche du Québec – Société et culture (FRQSC)
Her most recent grant is a $39,647 SSHRC Knowledge Development Grant for her study on 'Children's Adaptation During the Preschool-Primary School Transition and the Role of the Family Environment.'
Dr. Faleschini accepts students for Master's and Doctoral programs in Educational Psychology at the Faculty of Education. She also welcomes research assistants and interns from various disciplines including educational psychology, psychology, early childhood education, and health-related fields.
