Sabine Rutar is a Senior Research Fellow at the Leibniz Institute for East and Southeast European Studies (IOS) in Regensburg, Germany, and Editor-in-Chief of Comparative Southeast European Studies since 2014. Her career spans institutions such as the Imre Kértesz Kolleg Jena, Leibniz Centre for Contemporary History Potsdam, and EHESS Paris.
- PhD in Modern History from the European University Institute (2001)
- Research focuses on 20th-century labor history, wartime economies, and memory politics in Southeastern Europe
- Recipient of prestigious fellowships, including the Feodor Lynen Award and Berlin Center for Cold War Studies
Her scholarship examines microhistories of mining and maritime industries, borderlands, and Cold War legacies. Recent projects include No Neighbors’ Lands in Postwar Europe and a monograph on labor under Hitler and Tito.
