Sabine Krieg

Sabine Krieg serves as Professor and Dean of the Department of Design at Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences within the Peter Behrens School of Arts, assuming the deanship on September 1, 2024. Previously appointed to the Retail Design teaching and research area on October 1, 2023, she had served as a substitute professor in the department.

Professor Krieg pioneered the concept of 'socio-retailing,' envisioning retail spaces transforming into co-socializing environments that foster community identity and better coexistence. Her research examines how urban spaces can evolve into design labs and heterotopia, with retail becoming obsolete as a term and metamorphosing into creative interaction spaces. She investigates immersive spatial experiences through lighting design and digital media, noting their underutilization in contemporary retail despite significant artistic potential.

Her teaching emphasizes content-based approaches and holistic, comprehensive design, integrating her theoretical and practical expertise to introduce students to the interdisciplinary nature of design.
