Sabine Höhler is a Professor of Science and Technology Studies with a historical orientation at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, Sweden. Her academic journey includes a MSc in Physics from Karlsruhe University (now KIT) in 1993 and a PhD in History of Science and Technology from TU Braunschweig in 1999. She holds Docent titles in History of Science, Technology and Environment from TU Darmstadt (2010) and KTH (2014).
Her research focuses on how science and technology have shaped human understanding and governance of the global environment. Key interests include the historical transformation of natural systems (e.g., atmosphere, climate, biosphere) into objects of scientific inquiry and technological intervention. She examines the socio-technical practices that enable environmental monitoring and management, as well as the inequities arising from technoscience-based human-nature interactions.
Her work bridges historical analysis with contemporary debates on planetary engineering and environmental justice, emphasizing how scientific instruments—from satellites to sensor networks—mediate societal perceptions of ecological systems.
