Saba Hussain is an Assistant Professor in Education and Social Justice at the University of Birmingham's School of Education. She holds a PhD in Sociology from the University of Warwick, an MSc in Development Studies from the London School of Economics, and an MA in Sociology from Delhi University. Her research focuses on feminist sociological approaches to education, social justice, and postcolonial contexts. Key interests include gender dynamics in education, citizenship, power structures, and resistance in global North-South frameworks.
Her work examines how counter-terrorism policies like the UK's Prevent duty influence education systems, normalizing surveillance roles for teachers. She also explores decolonial/Southern feminist perspectives and anti-racist educational strategies. A recent Leverhulme Trust-funded project analyzed the impact of Prevent on schools. Her doctoral research on Indian Muslim girls' education highlighted intersections of modernity and traditional gender norms in 'good girlhood' constructs.
No specific scientific awards are listed. Her research grants include the Leverhulme Trust-funded project on counter-terrorism agendas in education. She advises on topics related to global South education contexts and social justice, though no formal student advisees are named here.
