Professor Saa Dittoh is an agricultural development and food systems economist at the West African Centre for Water, Irrigation and Sustainable Agriculture (WACWISA) at the University for Development Studies (UDS) in Tamale, Ghana. He has held significant administrative roles at UDS including Head of Department, Dean of Faculty, Dean of Students, and Pro-Vice Chancellor.
His research expertise spans agricultural economics with critical focus on food and nutrition security, sustainable agricultural systems, irrigation technologies, natural resources management, and ICT applications for rural development. He integrates participatory learning approaches to advance smallholder agriculture and resilient food systems across West Africa.
Prof. Dittoh has received distinguished recognition as a Fellow of the African Association of Agricultural Economists (AAAE). His policy contributions include shaping Ghana's Medium Term Agriculture Sector Development Plans (METASIP I and II) and Long Term Development Plan (2018–2057).
With decades of international consultancy experience, he has advised UNICEF, WFP, FAO, IFAD, The World Bank, AfDB, World Vision, USAID, DFID, and the EU on agricultural development programs. His advisory work directly informs national and continental strategies for sustainable food systems.
Currently leading research initiatives at WACWISA, he drives innovation in water management and sustainable agricultural practices tailored to West African smallholder contexts.
