Professor Trimble's research interrogates pop-cultural storytelling across film, television, and literature through intersectional frameworks. She examines how race, gender, and sexuality manifest in horror narratives, apocalypse scenarios, and memoir practices, with particular attention to marginalized voices and the political dimensions of genre conventions. Her work consistently bridges academic rigor and public scholarship.
Recent publications reveal evolving engagement with contemporary cultural moments, showing increasing focus on trans/queer representation in horror, critiques of colorblind liberalism in media, and creative scholarly formats that blend memoir with cultural analysis. This trajectory demonstrates her commitment to making critical theory accessible beyond academic circles.
Her scholarly recognition includes:
- Cheryl Regehr Early Career Teaching Award (2023-2024)
- FAS Superior Teaching Award (Sessional Instructor), University of Toronto (2020)
- Bitch Media Writing Fellowship in Pop Culture Criticism (2020)
Professor Trimble actively mentors graduate students through SSHRC-funded research projects while teaching undergraduate courses on sports cultures and feminism in horror, alongside core graduate theory seminars. Her supervision emphasizes collaborative knowledge production and critical engagement with contemporary social issues through cultural analysis.
She currently leads an SSHRC-funded oral history project documenting feminist cultural studies from marginalized perspectives and contributes to national pedagogical research on gender/sexuality studies curriculum development.
