S. Michael Putman

S. Michael Putman is a Professor in the Department of Reading and Elementary Education at the University of North Carolina Charlotte (UNC Charlotte), serving concurrently as Associate Provost for Academic Programs and Space. He previously chaired the department and holds administrative roles in the Division of Academic Affairs.

Education: Ph.D. in Elementary Education (2004, Ball State University), M.A.E. in Elementary and Early Childhood Education (1999, Ball State University), B.A. in Mathematics (1993, S.U.N.Y. Geneseo).

Research: Focuses on teacher self-efficacy, intercultural competencies via field experiences, and online reading inquiry. His work emphasizes global education integration, classroom management, and affective variables impacting literacy outcomes. He has supervised over 200 action research studies and 100 behavioral interventions.
