S. Elissa Altin, MD, is an Associate Professor of Medicine in the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine at Yale University School of Medicine. She specializes in interventional cardiology, treating cardiovascular and hypertension-related conditions such as atherosclerosis, hypertensive crisis, and malignant hypertension. Her research focuses on peripheral artery disease (PAD), telemedicine in vascular care, gender disparities in cardiology, and statin therapy in PAD. Dr. Altin holds an MD from Harvard Medical School (2006) and a BA in Biochemistry from Harvard College (2002). She completed her Internal Medicine residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital and advanced training in cardiology and interventional cardiology at Columbia University Medical Center.
Her notable contributions include co-authoring the 2024 AHA/ACC/ACS guidelines for perioperative cardiovascular management and leading the Women FiRST clinical trial evaluating revascularization strategies. She has published widely on PAD, imaging in coronary interventions, and sex-based outcomes in cardiovascular care. Dr. Altin was honored as a Fellow in the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (SCAI) Emerging Leader Mentorship Program (2022).
Her research spans clinical trials, systematic reviews, and guideline development, addressing disparities in vascular care access and outcomes. She collaborates with institutions like the American Heart Association on initiatives to enhance gender equity in interventional specialties.
