S. Andrew Starbird is a Professor of Information Systems & Analytics at Santa Clara University’s Leavey School of Business. He also serves as Executive Director of the My Own Business Institute (MOBI) and has held leadership roles including Interim Dean (2009) and Dean (2010–2015) of the Leavey School. Dr. Starbird earned a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics from Cornell University, an MBA from Santa Clara University, and a BS from UC Davis.
His research focuses on quality control, supply chain management, food safety, and contractual relationships. He has published in journals like Naval Research Logistics and American Journal of Agricultural Economics, and served as co-editor of the International Food & Agribusiness Management Review (2001).
Dr. Starbird has received multiple awards, including four Extraordinary Performance Awards from the Leavey School (1997, 2000, 2006, 2007) and the ACE Outstanding Faculty Award (2004). He advises on boards such as the Second Harvest Food Bank and consults with companies like Becton Dickinson and Fresh Express. His teaching spans operations management, statistics, and complex decision-making across undergraduate, MBA, and executive programs.
