Rūta Rikterė is a Professor in the Piano Department at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre (LMTA) and currently serves as Vice-Rector for Studies, teaching Piano and Piano Ensemble courses.
Her academic foundation includes a degree from the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre (1986) followed by postgraduate studies acquiring qualifications as a soloist, accompanist, chamber ensemble musician, and teacher.
Professor Rikterė specializes in Piano Performance with a three-decade dedication to Chamber Music through her piano duo partnership with Zbignevas Ibelgauptas. She actively pioneers Contemporary Music interpretation—particularly works by Lithuanian composers—and drives Lithuanian Music History preservation through score editing and premiering new compositions. Her technical precision and innovative approach span repertoire from Bach to modern works.
Her distinguished recognition includes:
- M. K. Čiurlionis International Piano Competition laureate (1982)
- Valentino Bucchi International Piano Duo Competition winner (1991)
- Golden Disc award from Lithuanian Musicians’ Union (2001)
- National Culture and Arts Award (Lithuania, 1997)
She actively shapes musical education through international master classes and competition juries while coordinating Culture Support Fund and Vilnius City Municipality projects. Her performance legacy includes global tours with major orchestras across 15+ countries and broadcasts on European radio/TV, notably during Vilnius European Capital of Culture (2009) and Lithuanian EU Presidency events (2013).
