Ríán Derrig is an Assistant Professor at the WMU-Sasakawa Global Ocean Institute, World Maritime University, specializing in law of the sea and international law. His research explores redistribution through international law, legal theory, and social science methodologies.

Ríán’s work focuses on the law of the sea, legal philosophy, and interdisciplinary approaches to international law. He is co-principal investigator for the Ireland & WMU-GOI BBNJ Clinic and the Future Ocean Programme, providing expert legal advice to state delegations and drafting legislation on law of the sea topics. He contributes to the Irish Yearbook of International Law and participates in legal blogs such as Opinio Juris and EJIL:Talk!.
