His academic career includes prior service as an Associate Professor at Boston College Law School, with professional experience as a litigation associate at Sullivan & Cromwell in New York focusing on complex commercial litigation.
Williams earned his J.D. from Columbia Law School and B.A. from the University of Kansas. His scholarly trajectory includes postdoctoral fellowships as a Sharswood Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania Law School (2011-2013) and associate-in-law at Columbia Law School (2013-2016).
His research centers on constitutional interpretation through historical analysis and originalism, with deep expertise in Due Process Clauses, Citizenship Clause, Ninth Amendment, and Guarantee Clause. Williams critically examines the institutional dynamics between the U.S. Supreme Court and lower courts while exploring intersections between constitutional principles and civil litigation procedures, establishing himself as a leading voice in constitutional theory and federal courts scholarship.
Williams' publication record reveals a sustained scholarly engagement with constitutional foundations, demonstrating consistent contributions to debates on judicial precedent, original meaning, and structural constitutionalism. His work frequently bridges historical analysis with contemporary doctrinal challenges in federal jurisdiction and civil procedure, appearing consistently in premier legal journals across two decades.
His professional journey reflects a strategic transition from high-stakes litigation practice to academic scholarship, with his fellowship positions providing critical incubation for his distinctive methodology combining historical rigor with doctrinal precision in constitutional analysis.
