Ryan Tewhey is an Associate Professor at the University of Maine, affiliated with the Graduate School of Biomedical Science and Engineering. His research spans bioengineering, genomics, and molecular biology, focusing on bridging the genotype-phenotype gap through innovative genomic technologies.
- Education: Ph.D. from University of California, San Diego (2012), B.S. from University of Maine (2005)
Dr. Tewhey’s research explores the non-coding regions of the genome, leveraging CRISPR-based screens and high-throughput reporter assays to identify variants that modulate gene expression. His work addresses the mechanistic link between genotypic variation and disease risk, particularly through genome-wide association studies (GWAS) and causal variant validation.
His publications highlight advancements in genomic sequencing technologies, including microdroplet-based PCR enrichment and solution hybridization methods. These tools enable precise targeted sequencing and functional analysis of regulatory elements in both human and mouse models.
