Ryan Stewart is a Teaching Fellow in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Strathclyde, Faculty of Science. He began his academic journey at Strathclyde as an undergraduate and later completed his PhD at the University of Glasgow. He joined Strathclyde's academic staff in 2022, initially as a Teaching Assistant and then as a Teaching Associate (now Teaching Fellow), and currently serves as the director of the September intake for the Online MSc in Applied Statistics.
His educational background includes a BSc (Hons) in Mathematics & Statistics from the University of Strathclyde and a PhD in Public Health from the University of Glasgow, awarded in November 2023. His doctoral research focused on trends and inequalities in childhood obesity and dental caries in Scotland, particularly evaluating the impact of the Childsmile programme.
Ryan's research interests lie at the intersection of statistics, public health, and social equity. He specializes in analyzing population-wide health data to understand socioeconomic disparities in child health outcomes, including obesity, dental caries, and access to preventive services. His work often involves data linkage studies, cohort analyses, and policy evaluation. He also investigates educational outcomes in relation to deprivation and additional support needs.
The recent publications reflect a strong focus on child health, maternal health, and health inequalities using large-scale epidemiological data. His work combines statistical modeling with public health policy relevance, often contributing to national health strategies in Scotland. Key themes include dental public health, childhood nutrition, multimorbidity, and equity in healthcare access.
