Ryan Statton is a Research Fellow in the School of Psychology at the University of Plymouth. His work focuses on mixed-methods approaches in social psychology, addressing topics such as gambling harm measurement, youth lootbox motivation, and moral disgust processes. He contributes to the Gambling Harms Scale Initiative, developing frameworks and tools through interviews, workshops, and statistical techniques like Item Response Theory and propensity score weighting.
Research interests include psychometrics, scale development, and person-centered care. His doctoral work examined moral disgust’s sociolinguistic expression and group dynamics. Ryan maintains a Higher Education Academy Fellowship, supporting his ongoing student supervision and pedagogical engagement.
His methodologies span qualitative (e.g., thematic analysis) and quantitative (regression, ANOVA, Bayesian statistics) techniques. Current projects emphasize translational research in behavioral health and social norms.
