Ryan Powers is an Associate Professor of International Affairs and Director of the Benson-Bertsch Center for International Trade and Security at the University of Georgia’s School of Public and International Affairs (SPIA). His research bridges international political economy and public opinion, focusing on how domestic actors influence global cooperation and conflict. Previously, he held a post-doctoral position at Yale University’s Leitner Program and earned a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Wisconsin–Madison (2017).
His research interests center on the political economy of international cooperation, public opinion in foreign policy, and experimental methods in international relations. He has published extensively in top journals like American Journal of Political Science and International Organization, with recent work on reputational dynamics, judicialization of compliance, and gender gaps in academic recognition.

He has secured research grants from the Carnegie Corporation of New York, National Science Foundation, and Stanton Foundation. His teaching includes graduate courses on experiments in international relations and undergraduate courses on international political economy.
