Ryan Platt is an Associate Professor of Theatre & Dance at Colorado College. He holds a B.A. from Amherst College (2001), and M.A. and Ph.D. from Cornell University (2007, 2010). His research focuses on performance studies, contemporary dance, and the intersection of art with biopolitical and capitalist systems. He teaches courses like Queer and Feminist Performance, Biotechnology in the Lab and Gallery, and Contemporary Performance, emphasizing experiential learning through artistic exercises over traditional essays.
Platt explores themes such as ritual, play, and performance’s role in resisting capitalist structures. His work analyzes movement-based choreographers and examines how global finance impacts artmaking through 'cheap' forms like stunts and pranks. He co-founded a unique science-arts course with biologist Sara Hanson and artist Sister Sylvester, blending feminist science studies with theatre practice. His research appears in journals like Dance Research Journal and Performance Research.
Platt’s office is located in Cornerstone Arts Center #411, and he can be reached at rplatt@coloradocollege.edu.
