Professor Ryan Murphy is a leading academic in legal education and EU law at Swansea University, currently serving as Acting Dean and Interim Pro Vice-Chancellor in the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences. He joined Swansea as an Associate Professor in 2019 and was promoted to full Professor in 2021. Previously, he served as Dean of Aston Law School and held roles as a Reader in Legal Education. His expertise includes legal education reform, European Union law, and the free movement of capital within the EU.
Ryan has collaborated with bodies like the Solicitors Regulation Authority and the Law Society to reform legal education and training. He serves as a peer reviewer for The Law Teacher, focusing on technology-enhanced learning and curriculum design. Notably, he co-authored the 2020 textbook English Legal System, which emphasizes contemporary teaching methods and legal skills.
His research spans EU economic governance, judicial dynamics, and legal system reform. He actively supervises PhD students in legal education, EU law, and public/employment law.
