Ryan M. Allen

Ryan M. Allen, Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Physiology and Cell Biology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) College of Medicine. His research focuses on the intersection of lipoprotein metabolism and chronic inflammation in cardio-metabolic diseases, particularly atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD).

Education:

• Ph.D. from Saint Louis University under mentor Angel Baldán
• M.S. and B.S. from Arkansas State University under mentor Ronald L. Johnson

Allen’s lab employs informatics, high-throughput small RNA sequencing, and in vitro, ex vivo, in vivo models to investigate how lipoproteins transport microbial small RNAs that trigger inflammatory responses linked to ASCVD and other chronic diseases like diabetes, cancer, and lupus. His work aims to identify therapeutic targets to address residual cardiovascular risk in patients with normal cholesterol levels.

The lab is currently accepting new graduate students and post-doctoral researchers.
